Install counts and ratings below come from WordPress.org and were checked on 25 August 2026. LWN Multi-Step Checkout is sold on WooCommerce.com and so has no WordPress.org listing or public rating.

Install count is a proxy for maturity, not quality — a plugin with 30,000 users has simply been tested against more themes and more edge cases than one with 4,000.

The table deliberately leaves out block checkout support, because it is the fastest-moving column in this category and any value printed here would age badly. Ours supports both checkouts as of version 1.1.0; for the rest, check the vendor's current documentation.

Fluid Checkout

Fluid Checkout is the most-used free option, and it treats multi-step as one part of a broader checkout redesign rather than the whole product.

It has 20,000+ active installations and a 4.9 rating from 158 reviews, the strongest combination of reach and rating among the checkout-focused plugins here. It is actively maintained, with releases landing regularly.

Consider it if you want to improve the whole checkout rather than only split it, and you would rather start from a free plugin with a large user base.

Look elsewhere if you want a small plugin that does one thing. Its scope is a feature for most stores and a downside if you want minimal surface area.

FunnelKit

FunnelKit is a funnel builder, not a checkout plugin, and it belongs in a different category from everything else here.

It has 30,000+ installs and a 5.0 rating from over 1,000 reviews. It builds landing pages, custom checkout pages, one-click upsells and abandoned-cart recovery — it replaces your checkout with its own rather than restyling WooCommerce's.

Consider it if you want upsells, order bumps and cart recovery alongside the checkout, and you are comfortable with a plugin that owns a large part of your funnel.

Look elsewhere if you only want to split the existing checkout into steps. This is a much larger commitment than that job requires.

MultiStep Checkout by ThemeHigh

ThemeHigh's plugin does one job — splitting the classic WooCommerce checkout into steps — and is free to start with.

It has 4,000+ active installations and a 4.8 rating from 55 reviews, with a premium tier adding advanced layouts and custom steps. ThemeHigh also publishes the widely used Checkout Field Editor, so the two work naturally together if you also want to add or remove fields.

Consider it if you want a focused free plugin and may also want field editing from the same vendor.

Look elsewhere if you need deep styling control without paying for the premium tier.

Multi-Step Checkout by SilkyPress

SilkyPress's plugin is the longest-established of the checkout-only options here, with a free version and a paid upgrade.

It has 8,000+ active installations and a 4.5 rating from 49 reviews. Its stated minimum requirements go back a long way, which reflects a plugin that has been maintained across many WooCommerce generations.

Consider it if you want a simple, stable, long-maintained option and the free version covers your needs.

Look elsewhere if you want a modern settings experience — its rating is the lowest of the free options here, which is worth reading the reviews about before committing.

LWN Multi-Step Checkout (ours)

This is our plugin, and it is the newest and least proven option on this list — so here are its limitations before its features.

The honest downsides: version 1.1.1 is current, released 30 August 2026, on a plugin whose 1.0.0 shipped in July 2026. It has no public reviews yet. And there is no free version — it is $79 per year on WooCommerce.com.

What it does well: it runs on both WooCommerce checkouts. The classic checkout is multi-step the moment you activate the plugin, and is configured from WooCommerce → Settings → Multi-Step Checkout across six tabs — General, Style, Appearance, Text & Labels, Advanced and Block Checkout. The block checkout is switched on from that last tab, which places the LWN Checkout Steps block in your checkout form, and is then configured from the block's own sidebar with a live preview of the stepper beside you.

Styling is three stepper designs, 16 editable labels and a single accent color — since 1.1.1 there is one color to pick, not a wall of pickers, and the contrast of the text sitting on top of it is worked out automatically so nothing you choose comes out unreadable. It overrides no WooCommerce template files, so theme updates do not break it. Progress survives a refresh on both checkouts. It ships full RTL support and an Arabic translation, which is unusual in this category. And as a WooCommerce Marketplace listing, it passed WooCommerce's code standards and security review.

A few things stay classic-only, because the block checkout has no place for them: the Login and Registration step, the dedicated Coupon step, the loading-animation styles and swipe navigation on phones.

Consider it if you want one license covering whichever checkout you run, configuration rather than CSS, and value RTL support or buying through WooCommerce.com.

Look elsewhere if you want a free option or prefer a plugin with a long review history. Both are reasonable positions.

How to choose between them

Check which checkout your store runs first, because for several of these plugins that eliminates options before price or features matter.

Open Pages → Checkout. A [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode means classic; a Checkout block means block-based. The guide to multi-step checkout on WooCommerce Blocks explains why this matters so much.

Then work down this order:

• Want more than checkout? FunnelKit, and stop reading here — the others do not compete with it.
• Want it free? Try Fluid Checkout first for reach, or ThemeHigh for a narrower plugin.
• Want no-code configuration, RTL, or a WooCommerce.com purchase? Ours, with the caveats above.
• On the block checkout and unwilling to switch? Ours works there as of 1.1.0; for anything else, verify support directly with the vendor before buying.
